Over the early May bank holiday weekend, my bridesmaids hosted my hen party for me. I had no real demands for my hen party, except that my girl friends all be in attendance for a weekend of fun!
Well, my bridesmaids outdid themselves and we had a really wonderful weekend. I wanted to give a little shout out to some of the companies that the girls used to make my hen party such a success.
The hen party was in London – which for those without local knowledge can be a bit of a drag as you may find yourself jumping on tubes and heading all over town for different parts of the weekend. Fortunately, my sister and one of my other bridesmaids are both London based and managed to locate us in Shoreditch and find locations in and around that area for our weekend activities.
First off, a huge thanks to The Dictionary Hostel who put us up – or should that be, put up with us! The hostel was so welcoming – leaving choccies, flowers, hair dryers and a note to wish us a fab weekend. It was so thoughtful. The nine girls were all in a 10-bed dorm together – totally felt like we were at boarding school! We had a toilet and shower in our room too. The hostel has a kitchen for use by guests and where it offers a do-it-yourself breakfast each morning. There is also a bar attached to the hostel – Translate Bar – which offers great coffee, amazing cocktails and food. The bar is open to the public but as a guest of the hostel, you get 20% off! Their big breakfast was very good.
We stayed for Friday and Saturday night. On Friday night, the girls arranged for a story teller, the lovely Vanessa of London Dreamtime, to come and tell us some bedtime stories. Some love stories, some funny stories – and some, obligatory, scary stories!! It was a lovely way to relax and get us into the “sleepover” mood of the weekend. Vanessa was brilliant at setting the scene and creating a relaxed atmosphere.
On Saturday morning we were treated to a life drawing class! It was a hen party and a naked man was mandatory really! It was a fun way to get some hen games started. Hen & Stag Life Drawing Co, the company behind our morning art class, were brilliant. Our class tutor actually took us through the stages of drawing people and getting proportions and angles. From a drawing perspective, I think we all improved in the hour and a half class. Of course, there was the usual “pin the ***** on the man”!! And, as the bride-to-be, I had to pose with our model for a drawing by the rest of the girls too!
The final shout out goes to Glam Hatters’ Tea Party. On the Sunday, my mum arrived as my surprise!! And we all headed for afternoon tea and fascinator making with the lovely ladies from Glam Hatters’ Tea Party. I’m keeping my creation a secret as I will be wearing it on my wedding day (!!) but the ladies were so helpful and encouraging and everyone created some really wonderful headwear!
It was the best send off a girl could ask for – and now we’re into the final weeks before the big day!
