[INSPIRATION] Converse Hi-Tops

When I spotted this image on Into The Gloss, I instantly wanted the hi-top Converse trainers. They will be the perfect shoes to wear with denim cut-offs all summer long, don’t you think? Sure, I have too many pairs of low Converse trainers already but I don’t yet have a pair of hi-tops in my collection. I am also completely taken with the ecru shade. I have Converse trainers in white and am always paranoid about them getting dirty but I don’t think I’d have the same worries about the slightly creamier shade.

I like Emily’s all white look but to be honest I think I must be a really careless person but I can’t seem to wear white without spilling stuff on myself – either that I’d be paranoid I’d sit in something yucky and stand up and have marks on my bottom!

Instead I’d team the trainers with my denim shorts and bikini top on – finished off with a straw fedora and wayfarers!

How would you wear the cream hi-tops?

[INSPIRATION] Converse Hi Tops: From Fashion Editor to Fashion Blogger to You

At Fashion Week in London last September as I was dashing for the Jasper Conran show, I found myself beside Hilary Alexander, the highly acclaimed Fashion Editor at The Daily Telegraph. Mrs Alexander was decked out in a wonderful black lace dress but it wasn’t this that caught my eye immediately, it was instead her shoes to which my eyes were drawn: a pair of leopard print hi top Converse trainers.

[OUTFIT] What I Was Wearing for a sunny Sunday stroll by the sea

Yesterday was an absolutely beautiful day in Cardiff Bay. We awoke to sunshine streaming into our apartment and decided to head out for a walk through the Bay and across the Barage.

For the walk, I chose to keep any sea breeze at bay with my new quilted jacket from Dorothy Perkins and teamed it with a floral H&M scarf, a Uniqlo cashmere blend jumper, new Oasis bottle green jeans and my trusty Converse trainers:

We strolled past the Wales Millennium Centre, drenched in the sunlight:

And then round and over the Barage – looking back towards the Bay:

And out to sea:

How was your weekend? Did you get out and enjoy the sun?

Budget bonus: Until midnight tonight get FREE delivery on all orders at Uniqlo and £10 off when you spend £50 with this code: TREAT50.

Budget bonus: Students if you’re in Cardiff, Birmingham, Sheffield or Manchester, find out here how you could get yourself a FREE pair of Oasis jeans.

[OUTFIT] The Sports Trend for SS12

This is my interpretation of the sportswear trend for SS12:

I’m not a particularly sporty person and I certainly am not the most casual dresser, but I do like to mix it up a little. The Kurt Geiger statement necklace helps to dress the American Apparel sweat up a bit. I teamed with a pair of my favourite Gap skinny jeans and finished off the look with a pair of coral Converse trainers.

If you fancy trying out the sporty trend without looking like you’re on your way to the gym:

  • Pair your skinny-fit sweatpants with sky high heels;
  • Choose a muscle-back vest in a neon shade – to tick two trends for SS12 – and team with black to let it stand out;
  • Swap your ballet flat shoes for a pair of sporty trainers, like my Converse or a pair of Alexa Chung’s favourites, Superga;
  • Add a sports bomber jacket over a dress for a little athletic chic.

How will you be wearing the sports trend for Spring Summer 2012?

[OUTFIT] Red is for Valentine’s Day

Red is not a colour that features too much in my wardrobe but when I spotted this jumper for £7.99 in the Zara sale, I knew I had to have it – and wear it for Valentine’s Day:

And for some reason, I felt the need to jump around whilst taking photos tonight – and then share them with you:

I’m wearing: Kurt Geiger necklace; Zara jumper; Gap skinny jeans; and Converse trainers.

We’re having a lovely chilled night in with take-away and chocolates, what could be better?

What are you wearing for Valentine’s Day?

[SHOES] Admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery

Ok, so I have a problem. An addiction. If you will. I am addicted to Converse trainers. Sound silly? Well, today arrived my fifth pair – of which three have been bought in the past four months! See what I mean now?

Here are my latest addition:

I love the pale coral colour of my new trainers that tap into the spring trend for pastels this year – they’ll be the perfect on-trend addition to my weekend uniform of trainers and t-shirt.

I’ve had these white Converse for a few years and they are now looking a little worse-for-wear, in fact I have even already bought another pair of white Converse but these are with a thinner sole:

Last summer I added a purple/lilac pair to my collection which are the perfect way to add a fun injection of colour to an outfit:

It has been the January sales at Spartoo however that have been my real downfall as my latest pair (top) and this pair of black Converse have been added too:

How do I love Converse? Let me count the ways:

♥ I love the bright colours – obviously! (Next on my wish list are these red trainers;
♥ In my opinion, Converse are the shoe-lovers trainer – not so much a trainer as a fashion statement;
♥ They go with everything – from jeans to shorts and maxi skirts to mini dresses;
♥ They are so so comfortable;
♥ And pretty – did I mention, pretty?!

What are your go-to comfort shoes?

The New Converse: SUPERGA

I’ve been living in my Converse trainers this summer (see here and here). But now apparently there is a new trainer to team with your floaty floral dress on the block, gently nudging the Converse out of its top spot in the hearts of fashionistas: the Superga.

Celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, Italian tennis shoe brand, Superga has seen a revival in popularity since choosing Alexa Chung to front its new advertising campaign:

Proving that the trainers are just as versatile as the Converse, as Alexa Chung shows they can be teamed with chiffon dresses and skinny jeans alike. She told the Telegraph Fashion:

“They’re the best for beachside fun but also ace with skinny black jeans. My fave are the pale pink ones.”

These maybe?

If pink isn’t really your bag, no need to worry, they come in a whole rainbow of colours:

Are you loyal to your Converse – or any other brand – or do you fancy trying out Superga?

What’s your relationship with shoes?

When BeautifullyInv retweeted a post by Dress With Courage entitled, A Woman’s Right To Shoes, I couldn’t resist clicking over to have a read. The post quotes a Daily Express article from a couple of months back which claims that women spend £16,000 on shoes in a lifetime!!

Now, Elissa, of Dress With Courage admits she’s not much of a shoe girl. But she asked, at the end of her post, what’s your relationship with shoes? And I felt that the answer to that deserved a whole post all of its own.

Elissa quotes:

“Shoes are a collector’s item, whether women realize they perceive them that way or not,” says Suzanne Ferriss, PhD, editor of Footnotes: On Shoes. Consider how shoes are often stored prominently on shelves, or in custom-made acrylic boxes. “They’re like sculptures,” says Ferriss. Collecting shoes causes an adrenalin-like rush similar to that a baseball card collector feels when landing a new find.

It’s true. I have a few pairs of “sensible” shoes: black ballerina pumps, black court shoes, nude courts. But then I have many pairs of beautiful shoes, brightly coloured shoes, interestingly patterned shoes, completely ridiculous shoes that I can barely stand in, let alone walk in, that I will never never get rid of because they are simply too special.

This pair is my current favourite. When I spotted them in Grazia earlier in the year, I knew I had to have these Pierre Hardy for Gap shoes but my local store didn’t get them in and I sort of gave up hope of finding them, until I saw this post over on bargainista fashionista. So I sent Super Stylish Sis off to hunt down a pair. Or two. Yes, I confess, she got me both colour-ways, as I just couldn’t choose. So now they are sitting wrapped in tissue paper in a couple of empty shoe boxes I had. Turns out the heels are too big for everyday wear but they are just so pretty that I know I will keep them forever!

According to the survey of 3,000 women, by Gocompare.com, the average woman has about 19 pairs of shoes – three pairs with heels, six pairs of flip-flops, sandals, ballet pumps or wedges, three pairs of boots and four pairs of “foxy-style” shoes for nights out. And they also have two pairs of work shoes and another two or so “random” purchases.

So I decided to test just how “average” I am and make an inventory of my shoes. Turns out I’m far from average: I own 52 pairs of shoes. Broken down into:

5x flip-flops, 4x sandals, 2x espadrille, 16x ballerina pumps, 1x brogues, 5x trainers, 7x courts, 1x shoe boots, 2x wedge boots, 3x ankle boots, 2x knee high boots, 2x EMU boots, 1x wellington boots and one pair of “going out” shoes.

I can’t explain my love for shoes but I think it probably has something to do with the fact that they can change a whole outfit. One pair of shoes can turn an outfit from a little bit blah to something really quite special.

As Rose says, in In Her Shoes:

“When I feel bad I like to treat myself. Clothes never look any good. Food just makes me fatter. Shoes always fit.”

And so it goes, no matter whether I have no clue what dress size I might be from store to store, I am always a size 5 (UK, 38 EU – if anyone’s interested!). When a pair of jeans feels a little tight or I’m feeling bloated, any pair of shoes – from a pair of purple Converse to a pair of sequined sandals to a pair of black court shoes – that I put on my feet make me smile.

Now it’s your turn to confess, what’s your relationship with shoes?

Style Inspiration: Converse trainers Part II

My new Converse trainers arrived!!!! And the minute I put them on at lunchtime, I just knew that they would not be coming off my feet any time soon:

I promise some much better photos very soon!

In the meantime, take inspiration from fellow blogger extrordinaire and Converse wearer, The Style Crusader:

The Style Crusader

My recent obsession with Models Own’s Lilac Dream (which coincidentally was introduced to me through this post by The Style Crusader!) encouraged my decision to invest in a lilac/purple shade of Converse trainers.

What do you think of the trainers? With the dress? (The boyf wasn’t too sure!)
